The call of the baby

As a first-time mom of a five-month-old, sometimes I feel like my day is full of little firsts. Today, Nate sat in one of those wooden restaurant high chairs for the first time. He sat with me at the little table in Whole Foods while I drank my coffee and ate a trail cookie. It was actually very cool to sit facing him and chatting instead of trying to eat and drink to the side while he’s in the Bjorn facing out.

While we were sitting there, Nate was babbling away. Then he let out one of those happy yells that babies have. A second later, an answering yell came from a baby somewhere else in the store. Kind of like monkeys in the rain forest or something.

selective commercial viewing

Since my husband built our “steve-o” earlier this year, our television watching habits have changed dramatically. We watch much less tv and only what we want (no more watching the crappy show sandwiched between two favorites.) And since Nate arrived, I watch even less - I’m very selective about which one or two shows I watch in the evening before bed.

But the biggest change for me has been how I watch commercials. I’m not one of those people that hates all commercials; I actually like some commercials. Now I can skip through and just watch the ones I want to see and that are relevant to me.

If you don’t have your own PVR, I highly recommend getting one.
